Studies show that when we live close to a river, lake or the sea there are many positive health and psychological advantages. Happiness comes with a premium

In the south of England, the demand for waterside properties attracts a substantial premium. For example, waterside properties close to or backing onto The River Thames around the Windsor and Richmond areas command significant prices and are in high demand.

Most waterway areas are protected because they are in Conservation Areas. Chalk stream rivers such as the Test and Itchen rivers also have strict fishing rights that give an added safeguard against future housing developments in the area.

On the positive side, rivers provide a nice, convenient border and if you are lucky you’ll have access to fishing. Living close to rivers are considered to be therapeutic and to have a calming effect on your wellbeing. On the negative side, they have a nasty habit of flooding and changing course between editions of estate plans, causing problems regarding boundaries along the way.

Waterfront homes are desirable

It is a known fact that even a glimpse of water from your home rather like a view, enhances the value of your property. There’s the view, the tranquillity and the privacy. A waterfront property comes high in demand and the lifestyle and health benefits make it well worth the price tag for many buyers.
