The #1 Reason for Moving - Education

Over the coming weeks we will be exploring the top 5 most common reasons for moving home.

Over the last 25 years by far and away the most common reason given by our clients for moving home is that they need to move out of London to find appropriate schooling for their children – principally to private schools although in recent years we have seen an increasing tendency for our clients to be considering both state and private education.

Each year, a large number of Premier Property Search clients move to the South specifically to be both close to their children’s school and also within reach of a main line station to London.  We are charged not only with the challenge of finding and securing our client’s next home but also dovetailing their new purchase to meet pressing time-scales.

The brief is frequently a maximum 15 minute drive to the school and a 15 minute drive to the train station for the commuter. For example in the South, towns such as Winchester, Salisbury and Guildford all have both good private and state schools and also good train links to the Capital and therefore demand for family houses is high in these areas.

It is also fascinating to note that more parents and their children are opting for flexi-boarding at the time-honoured prep schools; something that was never an option up until recently with pressure on schools to attract ‘bums on seats’! This again means that families need to be closer to their children’s school for more frequent drop-offs and pick-ups.

The state system is still placing emphasis on children living within catchment areas particularly where schools have an outstanding reputation for results. High demand for family houses in these areas continues to drive the market which is reflected in the house prices for these properties.

We are fortunate to have had a very busy start to the year with several new clients retaining us as their property search consultants.  The common factor and main reason for starting their search now is to get ahead of the game in anticipation of getting advanced knowledge of properties coming onto the market in order that they can complete their move prior to the start of the September 2015 school term.

Given our knowledge and contacts gained during the last 24 years of operation, Premier Property Search has a proven and enviable track record of securing properties for our clients by working closely with all the selling agents in the area.
